Finding Central Church

Directions from Bluffton, SC.
There are two ways to get to Central from Bluffton. The Cross-Island Parkway is faster, but there's a toll-booth where you'll have to pay a dollar. William Hilton Parkway goes all the way around Hilton Head Island, but you save a dollar each way.

BTW, if you live around here, you'll want to get a Palmetto Pass.

Cross-Island Parkway
Take Hwy 278 East on to Hilton Head Island.
The road splits into two parkways - the Cross-Island and William Hilton Parkway.
Veer left onto the Cross-Island Parkway just after Spanish Wells Road.
Go through the toll-booth onto the southern part of the Island (Palmetto Bay Road).
At the traffic circle (Sea Pines Circle), take the third exit onto William Hilton Parkway.
We're on the right side just past the entrance to Shipyard Plantation.

William Hilton Parkway
Take 278 East onto Hilton Head Island.
The road splits into two parkways just after Spanish Wells Road.
Veer right onto William Hilton Parkway.
Keep going a long way.
Sights along the way: McDonald's, Port Royal Plantation, Shelter Cove Mall (get in the left lane about this point).
Look for the Long Cove Club sign on the right. We're directly across the street.
Turn left into Central Church.

Directions from South Hilton Head Island
From Coligny Circle (Forest Beach), take Pope Avenue toward the mainland.
Stay in the right lane going into the next traffic circle (Sea Pines Circle).
Take the first exit out onto William Hilton Parkway.
We're on the right side just past the entrance to Shipyard Plantation.

Notes about driving on Hilton Head Island

  • There are no lighted or neon signs on Hilton Head and very few in Bluffton. If you're driving at night, pay very close attention. If you miss your destination, just make a U-turn at the next available spot. No, won't get a ticket for it.
  • There are two main entrances to Shipyard Plantation. We're next to the one on William Hilton Parkway, not Pope Avenue.
  • The nice thing about traffic circles is if you miss your exit, you can just go around and try again. "Look, kids. Big Ben, Parliament!"
